Sine we had no guests, we decided to enjoy the parade from the comfort of our front porch. By half an hour to parade time, everyone had called and cancelled, but it was too late for us to get out of Dodge. Just as we were putting the finishing touches on cleaning the kitchen, the phone calls started to come in. Of course, Saturday morning had dawned rainy and cool, which was not a surprising turn of events in the weather here. Saturday morning we were still hurrying and trying to get things ready. So, I got home from BlogPaws and then started getting the house ready for the Saturday morning get together. Certain members of our family like the parade so much that they invite themselves over to watch it whether we want to host a party or not, too. We have a front row seat for it every year whether we want one or not, because the parade goes right past our house. There aren’t too many old fashioned parades left in our corner of the world, so a lot of people turn out to watch it. Saturday morning was the morning of the big parade.Īctually, considering how small our village is, the parade really is a pretty big undertaking. Many years ago, they mined for coal in our area, and the “mountain” which honestly is really just a glorified dirt hill, has been called Old Jumbo for as long as anyone can remember. I suppose to make it sound more interesting and historical. It used to be called Roanoke Days, but they’ve since changed the name. Last weekend was the big annual Jumbo Days Parade that goes past our house.
